Just like you for blog

It’s almost here! The anticipation and excitement are building. Get ready for a great book on anxiety that’s geared towards kids. This is my first book, and I’m so excited for everyone to read it! Here’s a teaser:

Brooke is a little girl who likes to paint and play and laugh with her friends just like you. Sometimes for her life can be a bit scary. Things that she does every day can make her feel sad, lonely and afraid when she should be happy. She has a secret that she wants to share with you. Do you want to know what it is?

I’m aiming to launch the book during Canadian Mental Health Week – May 7 to 13 2012. Details in follow soon!

I have to say that over the last two weeks I have accomplished more and felt more euphoric moments than I have my whole life. What’s the secret? Living each and every day with all the passion that lies within me, starting each day by thanking the universe for my unbelievable abundance and telling others just how terrific they are. Small things but all things that make life so worth living. Remember:
Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take but by the moments that take our breath away.

Karen Liberman “Lit from Within” Award

Announcing …
Mood Disorders Association of Canada
The Karen Liberman “Lit From Within” Award
Volunteering is the most fundamental act of citizenship and philanthropy. It is offering time, energy and skills of one’s own free will. By caring and contributing to change, volunteers decrease suffering and disparity, while gaining skills and self-esteem. More than 170 people freely gave their time and talent to MDAO over the course of this year. Karen Liberman, former Executive Director of the Mood Disorders Association of Ontario, often spoke of the fact that volunteers are the backbone o f the work we do. At Karen’s retirement celebration in June 2011, the MDAO Board of Directors established a new award to annually recognize an outstanding volunteer in Karen’s honor. They established The Karen Liberman “Lit from Within “Award to recognize a volunteer who has demonstrated outstanding leadership, creativity and innovation in contributing to Mood Disorders Association of Ontario programs or activities.
The award: the winner of the “Lit From Within” Award will receive a commemorative engraved plaque and a gift of $1,500.
Who is eligible?
The award is open to volunteers who have been supporting the Mood Disorders Association for at least one year and have demonstrated outstanding efforts in volunteerism. They must demonstrate leadership, creativity, and innovation in their approach to supporting individuals and families affected by depression, anxiety, or bipolar disorder.
Who is a volunteer?
A person who receives no financial compensation for their involvement with the program, event, or activity which this nomination recognizes.
How do I nominate a volunteer?
Please fill out the Nomination Form and return it to Kim Umbach either by e-mail at: kimu@mooddisorders.ca, or send it in by mail or drop it off in person to: 36 Eglinton Ave. W., Suite 602, Toronto, ON, M4R 1A1 no later than Friday March 30th, 2012.
We will accept nominations from volunteers, staff, participants, or friends of volunteers. You can also nominate yourself. Those who are not selected for the award this year are welcome to be nominated again in subsequent years. The “Lit From Within” award recipient will not be eligible for nomination next year.

Love Tree

Let your love flow outward through the universe,
To its height, its depth, its broad extent,
A limitless love, without hatred or enmity.
Then as you stand or walk,
Sit or lie down,
As long as you are awake,
Strive for this with a one-pointed mind;
Your life will bring heaven to earth.

How often do you listen to your children…really listen?

FamilyYou know life these days is always so busy. We don’t have time to get done what we are in the middle of doing and we’re thinking 10 steps ahead. It makes for a very hectic pace for everyone, including those who are sensitive. Did you know children get stressed out too. The only difference is are we really hearing them. I was going to blog about this the other day and then I came across a great article about just that – helping children conquer stress. I hope you get a chance to get to read this article because it has some amazing insight into how we as parents can understand that all that behaviour is for a reason.
