It goes without saying that there are countless ways that anxiety can strike and get in the way of routine tasks.
- Eating in front of others
- Riding a bike with friends
- Going over to a friends house
- Going over to a friends house for a sleep over
- Playing in the park with friends
- Walking from school alone
- Raising your hand in class
- Playing with friends at recess
For those around them it is a hard world to manouver through and sometimes those milestones are delayed and the time honoured traditions about being a kid are a little skewed.
Slowly but surely our daughter is gaining her independence. The stronger her social skills are getting the more adaptable she is becoming, the more eager she is to go out on a limb and try something new. She is beginning to work more independently at school and at home we are beginning to see a bit of a push towards, “I don’t need your help”. It doesn’t always work in her favour but anxiety ridden or not, kids need that experience of trying something and it not working in order to learn. Obviously, we never put them in harms way and we are always here to catch our kids when they fall. When we see an opportunity to change up the dynamic we do.
