Want to know a little bit about me?
I’m a mother of two wonderful children. My daughter was diagnosed in 2005 with anxiety disorder and in 2007 with social anxiety disorder. She has suffered from this terrible diagnosis all of her life. It has been an uphill battle for the last three years for us to help people understand that the way she interacts with others is not due to beligerance or unwillingness but from anxiety. I too suffered from severe seperation anxiety growing up and as an adult have had my share of moderate to severe panic attacks. So I too am no stranger to feeling like the world is going on around me and I’m standing still.
In 2008 I had started the year off with pure determination and a desire to communicate with other parents who were in the same situation as us. I welcome any parents who have a child that they are concerned with to connect to our community. You do not need a firm diagnosis you only need to know that you want to help your child.
I have become an advocate for my daughter and every day of my life is dedicated to changing the stigma of this disorder and the many other mood and anxiety related disorders. My daughter is now flourishing with the support and understanding of her new environment.
In the meantime we have to understand that for caregivers and siblings the road to health can be just as bumpy. Support is essential. Sharing ones experiences and everyday struggles helps in making one feel not so alone. Being alone in this constant battle does not need to exist. I hope that through my battles and victories I can help others find their place. Anxiety is with us for a lifetime but strength can overpower it and support can silence it.

how did you get your daughter diagnosed? though not a professional, i believe that my daughter suffers from some kind of anxiety disorder. i have sought help from a local paediatric counselling organization, but all they seem to do is have my husband and i jump through hoops. they have presented no solutions to the problems we went to them for. they appear to be creating a paper trail to cover themselves while my family crumbles.
i think we need treatment, not counselling and i am not sure where to turn for this. quickly. any sugestions you have would be helpful. thanks.
I am also a parent of a child with a severe anxiety and mood disorder. As you can read on my blog, it has been a very very long road. I have also started a blog forum for teens with anxiety and mood disorders as well as other isolating illnessess to discuss their feelings in a safe and monitored forum. Her is a link
