My efforts with “The Chocolate Race” have gotten me in the local paper. If you haven’t already heard “The Chocolate Race” is a race around the Port Dahlousie area of Niagara in support of the “Anxiety Disorder Association of Canada (ADAC)”. We are all walking to raise awareness for those who suffer from mental health disorders. I am walking for my family so that my children can get the help they need when and if they need it without feeling embarrased or frightened.

Here’s a glimpse of the article from “The Milton Champion”.

Excited about race

Wierski-Devoe is now gearing up for the annual Chocolate Race — a fundraiser to benefit the Anxiety Disorders Association of Canada. The race will be held Sunday, Aug. 28 in Port Dalhousie (www.thechocolaterun.com).

Wierski-Devoe has already raised more than $500 for the event and said the run is another opportunity to put metal illness in the spotlight.

“Why can’t we talk about metal illness just as easily as we do when we have a broken arm?” she asked.

Wierski-Devoe admitted her own anxiety issues hit her from time to time. But she has learned to cope by thinking of the light at the end of the tunnel. “I manage to acknowledge it’s happening and think about how fantastic it feels on the other side (of the panic attack).”

One of the most important things she does is simply being honest about her anxiety. “I’ve lost a couple of friends who just don’t understand anxiety disorder. But this is why I do what I do, because I’m an advocate for my daughter.”
