My 3 Point Scale

Have you ever heard of a three point scale? I hadn’t until just the other day. Sydney has such a wonderful group of people that help her out every day. Well, considering just two years ago she was a little girl with very few words and many tears you can imagine my delight when I was handed a copy of 3 point scale. It’s a little sheet of paper that holds what I consider very valueable insight into Sydney. I often wonder what’s going on in that beautiful head of hers.
Well, this scale is amazing. It consists of columns that show what the feeling looks like (crying, head on the desk), what the feeling feels like (headache, can’t breath, REALLY ANGRY), what she can try to do (draw, request a break), and lastly what the adults can do (take her for a walk). All of the information on this card is like a road map to her feelings and her comfort.
It is for sure the best to see her be able to express herself like this. Now, when she’s at a 3 or a 1 I try to make sure we recognize what it all feels like. Especially when it’s a 1 and she can revel in the good feeling. Don’t we all need to do that.
