We made it!

Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under the trees on a summer’s day, listening to the murmur of water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time”
Quote by John Lubbock

Well, we are one day away from the end of the school year and wow what a year it has been. From the humble beginnings of us walking in the school together teary eyed and upset to this morning holding a rose for the teacher from our garden and a smile on her face.

I had a meeting with the behavioural team just on Monday and the feedback from everyone has been great. We anticipate some what of a setback come September but all in all we are just continuing to move forward. We are continuing to build upon the strong foundations that we have built this year.

Sydney has already met her teacher for next year and they got along very well. The paperwork has been set for next year too so I still have the same people involved in Sydney’s well being.

As a gift to the teachers we decided that no boxes of chocolates or gift certificates would quite say or do what we wanted them all to know. We wanted them all to know how very grateful we were for their hard work and patience. Syndey and I collaborated together and did a little book for them all called, “My life at Bruce Trail”. Using her works of art and some of her sayings we put together a wonderful memory of this year.

So now what’s next? Well, we have a number of friends to see, some relaxing to do, some swimming and summer without packing and moving and unpacking. Let’s hope the lack of routine will not do us in.

Tell us how you co-ordinate your summer vacation? Do you do summer camps or casual get togethers?

Hats off to summer!

    Hi Sydney’s Mom:

As one of the teachers at Bruce Trail, I have to say that it has been so rewarding to see Sydney’s progress over the year!!! I remember her in September, shaking in the hall, on the verge of tears….guiding her to her seat….and then guiding her to morning circle, and then watching her painfully choose not to participate in any of the activities.

This past month or so, Sydney entered the class happily on her own….was talking with her friends….talking to ME!….copying her agenda message and excited to go visit our VP for a sticker and I was thrilled to read her “How To Book – How to Plant a Garden”.

Have a wonderful summer!! And we’ll see you in September :)

    Hello there Sydney’s Teacher,
This comment made me cry. I remember those days back at the beginning of the year and they absolutely killed me each and every time. My saving grace was that I could look to the teachers for a supportive look of understanding that made me know it was all okay and that Sydney would be safe; despite the massive tears. Your team of staff brought out the Sydney that both my husband and I knew existed but that without your help would never have come to flourish like she did. Thank you so much for the wonderful post and for being such a wonderful person and having the patience to see the girl on the other side of the anxiety.
Have a wonderful summer too and I can’t wait to pick up where we left off in September.
