The signals a child needs help

These days children’s mental health is the topic he hears most about – from parents, teachers and principals – as a growing number of students arrive in class with signs of depression, anxiety, attention and behaviour problems.

Equipping teachers with tools to identify and support them is critical, he adds. Kids in distress can’t learn. They may also be ostracized by peers and disciplined by teachers who don’t understand. Some who are struggling may become frustrated, disruptive and explosive.

I think what’s important about this article is that in just like Sydney has her “Toolbox” to help her deal with the anxiety the teachers too need their own “Toolbox” in order to make it a successful partnership. We as a society need to learn how to work together and that there is not only ONE solution.
