If you live in the Vancouver area have you heard about the About Pacific Spirit Play Therapy & Counselling Services
Is your child struggling with behavior problems or emotional
difficulties?

Has your child experienced a stressful or traumatic situation such as
illness or injury, birth of a sibling, moving to a new neighborhood,
school or social difficulties, death of a loved one, frequent parental
conflict, separation or divorce of the family, family violence, or a
natural disaster?

As a parent, do you have questions about parenting and how to form a
closer connection with your child?

I can help both you and your child. I run Pacific Spirit Play Therapy
& Counselling Services to address the specific counselling needs of
children ages 2 to 12 years old and their parents. Started in January
2004, this service has continued to grow and flourish because I provide
a focused and child-friendly environment to help parents and children
resolve problems and develop closer connections with each other.

With children I use and approach to counselling known as play therapy.
Play therapy is a proven method to help children with behavioral or
emotional problems. Research has demonstrated that play therapy is
very beneficial to help children heal from stressful or traumatic
situations they have experienced.

I also work with parents to assist them in developing parenting skills
and resources.

Please contact me for a free initial phone consultation.

General information about child and adolescent anxiety

Here’s an article from the Child and Adolescent Anxiety Clinic that overviews much of what we already know but it is always nice to be reassured that anxiety is in fact a very real disorder with very real consequences.

The Child and Adolescent Anxiety Clinic at MUARU opened in 1993. Our aim is to continually increase our understanding of child anxiety and to improve ways of controlling it. We try to understand how anxiety develops, what keeps anxiety going and which aspects of treatment are most effective in reducing young people’s anxiety so that future programs can be designed to be of most help to those suffering from anxiety. We continually evaluate and update our programs to make sure they are the best available.

Helping your socially vulnerable child

I haven’t had a chance to pick this book up but it came as a recommendation from a friend of mine. Helping your socially vulnerable child: what to do when your child is shy, socially anxious, withdrawn or bullied Author: Andrew R Eisen, Linda B Engler

This book provides parents with a set of cognitive behavioral tools they can use to promote confidence, independence, and social ease in their children, whether in the classroom, on the playground, in the cafeteria, or at play in their peer groups. The book shows parents how to work effectively within the school system and help their children build strong support groups.
